If you have a cat then you know all about the problems of cleaning up cat fur. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats and we found cat fur to be the hardest to remove.
Before you go and just purchase a hand held vacuum cleaner to pick up cat fur you should make sure you have already done the following:
1) Ensure that you groom your cats regularly.
The amount of loose cat fur falling out can be reduced significantly by regular grooming. We found that grooming our cats daily reduced the amount of cat fur we need to clean up by about a 1/3. This will differ between breeds of course, but it helps quite a bit.
2) Use loose covers or throws on all chairs and sofas
Vacuuming cat fur is notoriously hard on chairs and sofas. You can make your life a lot easier by covering these areas with... well, anything you can lay your hands on. Using throws and covers makes vacuuming cat fur easier once your main areas are covered.
Quick Tip: Spot Cleaning Cat Hair
For a cheap way to do spot cat hair removal, try wrapping some wide masking tape around your hand and using that to pick up the fur. It's a great way to get cat fur out of those hard to reach places.
So after you've done those things, you still need a vacuum of some time to clean up the pet fur. And we found a wonderful little solution:
Let's face it, you need a powerful hand-held vacuum cleaner for dealing with pet hair, and specifically for vacuuming up cat fur. We have tested out a full range of hand held vacuums that were designed to deal with cat and pet fur, to see how well they cleaned up. Cat fur, or any animal fur for that matter, requires more suction than your average handheld vacuum can muster. So a better vacuum means spending less time vacuuming the same place over and over again.
We believe that the Bissell 33A1 Pet Hair Eraser is the best hand-held vacuum for removing cat fur. By far. (Learn more about the Bissell 33A1 Pet Hair Eraser)
We honestly fell in love with it the first time we used it. It was unbelievable. The power of the machine is fantastic! For such a cheap vacuum, it has a very powerful motor. It actually jumps in your hand when you switch it on. At first I thought that I would get annoyed with having a corded vacuum, but in exchange for a cord you get a lot stronger vacuum. And it's been nice to not have to worry about charging it.
So how good is it? We tried the Bissell 33A1 Pet Hair Eraser on the coach were our two cats love to spend their day sleeping. The coach used to look purple. But it had gone gray because of all the matted cat hair. Eww! It was gross. After 5 minutes of cleaning with the Bissell 33A1 the coach was literally cat fur free.
